Hi there beautiful creator!



I spent my Sunday super relaxed, on the couch with a cuppa and some sewing work in my lap!
It felt like a real old fashioned Sunday, soooo nice. :-)

A while ago I started a new B.O.P.A. in a handmade paperbag journal (To watch a tutorial on how I made the paperbag journal just scroll down a little bit).
When that paperbag journal was filled I wanted to create a cover for it. That was going to be my sewing work for a lazy Sunday and today was that Sunday.

I took some pictures and made a little slideshow for you to watch the process.

I simply love how it turned out! The look and the feel of this fabric, the way it doesn't lie flat, curls and is not perfectly straight just fits the paperbag journal perfectly! The fabric was wide enough so I could make a flap which means I have some room left over to sew one or two more paperbag journals in!
So I also folded and taped a new paperbag journal and started BOPA 2.0! hihi

I thought I'd share this little tutorial on how I made a journal out of a paper bag again.
The reason being that today I made a little foto-collage-video-tutorial thingy about making a cover for this journal. Then I got the idea that it might be handy to have the other tutorial under the tab free tutorials too. Not bad for a non structured and goinig with the flow artist hey? ;-)

I just love, love, love quirky faces. :-) I don't know if that is because I cannot draw a realistic face (yet) or that I just love them because I love them. Maybe it is because I am afraid to loose spontaneity in my drawings when I realy learn how to draw a face. To be honest, I don't really care about that right now. At the moment I love them this way and especially the way I create them. I like to make Touchdrawings on thin paper. In the video below you can see how I do that. Working this way gives me less control, more spontaneity and diversity in the faces that show up. They realy do just show up and they always find a way in my journal. Some days I feel drawn to creating a face and one of them (I always have a small stack of them) will speak to me. Ususally a message or insight comes to me while working with the face. While making the tutorial that didn't happen, maybe the spanish lady is camera shy? :-)

    Hi monique great video ,I also work like this ,sketching on tissue paper though, try scrunching the faces up before u stick them down for a interesting effect ...I also prefer quirky faces the best...it's fun would love to be able to work with u we have similar ideas...

    Oh thanks Monique lol I tried this and my paper wanted to pull itself inti the paint like a magnet used two different types ,tissue and lunch wrap type of paper...did not behave at all like yours did ..ummmmm

      Hi Bev, it is great to hear somebody actually trying something I showed on YT! Thanks for that and for leaving a message!
      The paper I used is thin but not as delicate as for instance a paper napkin. I've tried paper napkins but they get sucked into the paint and tear when lifted from the glass.
      I gently let the paper sort of fall onto the glass, no pressing down, it's ok if it doesn't lie flat.

      Or maybe you used to much paint (like I did in the beginning of the video), thin paper gets sucked into the paint if there is a lot of wet paint. Also a heavy body paint works better than a fluid acrylic paint.
